- She was once discussing the meaning of their names in class 6th when someone shouted from the back of the classroom that she owned the sky as ‘Vyom’ means ‘sky.’
- Vyomika Singh was born in a middle-class civilian family, and no one in her family has ever worked in the Indian Armed Forces.
- Her teacher also confirmed this and joked that she will own the sky one day. But she was inspired by the moment and decided to become a pilot in the Indian Air Force (IAF).
- She later read the Employment Newspaper, in which the IAF only allowed ‘unmarried males’ to apply for the pilot post.
- She later learned that she could become a pilot through the UPSC (SSC—Short Service Commission) exam, so she applied and was selected for the Indian Air Force in 2004.
- She later got into legal trouble over her commissioning as a permanently commissioned officer and even fought a case.
- In 2020, she was a part of the rescue mission in Arunachal Pradesh.
- In April 2021, she, along with 9 other women officers from the flying (Pilot) branch and 1 officer from the flying (Navigation) branch, were granted permanent commission. She received with effect from 18 December 2019.
- She was a member of the tri-services, all-women mountaineering expedition to Mt. Manirang (21,625 ft), at the border of the Kinnaur and Spiti districts of Himachal Pradesh, as part of the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mohotsav’ celebrations.
